The community choir, formed in 2012, is open to anyone over the age of 16 with a connection to Thurstonland Village. There are no formal auditions although new singers may be given a trial to ascertain which vocal part suits them best. All music is provided by the choir with some parts emailed to members for them to print off their own copies. The community choir is affiliated to the Thurstonland Village Association.
The choir meets in St Thomas’ church each Thursday evening from 7:30 until 9:00 p.m. from September to June. There is a subscription of £2 per rehearsal which is collected at the beginning of the rehearsal by credit/debit card payment.
The choir currently has around 20-25 members and usually performs 3 / 4 times each year, often in aid of local charitable causes. Over the years the choir has raised more than £20,000 for charity.
Regular social activities are an important part of being in the choir which has built a very strong, supportive team atmosphere. The choir sings a varied repertoire from popular through musical to classical and sacred. Since its inception the community choir has made great progress, raised an enormous amount of money, provided a great outlet for music-making in the village and become a great group of friends!
